In an effort to encourage a family and friends atmosphere to optimize the healing environment for our patients, Southern Ocean Medical Center has a policy of unrestricted visiting hours except for maternity. Visitors are limited to two visitors per bed at any one time.
The Maternity Pavilion: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Maternity Unit hours are designed to allow friends and loved ones to share in the joy of the new arrival, as well as to give the new mother and her family private time for rest and recovery.
Please stop at the Information Desk for the room number of the patient you are visiting. If you have any questions during your visit, feel free to ask any volunteer or hospital employee for assistance.
All visiting privileges depend on the patient’s condition, as determined by the primary nurse.
It is recommended that there be only one or two visitors with a patient at any one time.
For their own health and safety, children under 12 are not permitted in patient areas, except for the Maternity Pavilion. Also, children should not be left alone in waiting areas.
Any visitor with a cold, sore throat, or other contagious illness should not visit patients.
Hand washing is the most important means of preventing the spread of infection. All visitors are urged to wash their hands before entering and leaving the room.
We appreciate your cooperation. If at any time you need to speak with someone regarding concerns during your visit, please contact the primary nurse on your floor.
Code of Conduct for Visitors
We want to provide the safest and most optimal healing environment for our patients and their visitors. To achieve this we request that all visitors follow the code of conduct outlined below. When visiting please:
Limit visitors to two per patient.
For their own health and safety we discourage the visits of children who are under 12 years of age. Should this be important to you please arrange their visits for Sundays.
Children visiting in the hospital need to be supervised at all times.
Photographs may not be taken in the hospital without prior consent.
To prevent the spread of infection please adhere to the following:
Avoid visiting a patient if you are sick or have a transmittable disease.
When restrictions are posted on the door of a patient room, check with the nurse before entering.
Be sure to wash your hands before and after visiting a patient’s room.
Refrain from sitting or placing personal items on patient beds. Use public restrooms not the patient’s bathroom.
Check with the nurse before bringing food or fresh flowers to patients.
To reduce noise to promote a quiet healing environment please:
Make sure cell phones and other electronic devices are on vibrate.
Keep voices low.
Respect the privacy of other patients by remaining in your patient’s room
To facilitate communication:
Please designate one family member as the hospital’s contact for information regarding the patient’s condition.
Please note: Disruptive or violent behavior cannot be tolerated and alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited in the hospital and on hospital grounds.
We thank you for your adherence to the Southern Ocean Medical Center Code of Conduct for Visitors. For the protection of everyone, visitors who do not comply with this Code of Conduct will be asked to leave the facility and may be escorted off hospital grounds by Security.
