Ditch dairy with these alternative ‘milks’

More health-conscious consumers are moving away from dairy and considering new milk-like alternatives. Stephanie Macaluso, a doctor of clinical nuturition and registered dietitian at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, recommends one percent or skim milk when choosing cows’ milk. Milk with higher levels of saturated fat can be detrimental to cardiovascular health. When considering other alternatives, she advises to be aware of sugar content and the amount of protein that each contains.
