When Athletes Share Infections. 

Stephen Rice, M.D., section chief of pediatric sports medicine at Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center, comments about the importance of greater awareness among pediatricians, parents, student athletes, and scholastic athletic leaders when it comes to preventing the spread of infectious disease. As one of the authors on a report issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics, he stresses the importance of talking to athletes about hygiene and cleanliness to prevent and control outbreaks of infectious diseases in organized sports.
