About Our Boosters Auxiliary

boostersIn the 1940’s a group of determined women on Long Beach Island got together and made a decision to make a difference. These women believed there should be a hospital in the area and formed the Boosters Auxiliary, the first of the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation’s four auxiliaries.

They started by simply going around with sand pails and asking for donations from visitors and locals who were basking in the summer sun and dining in local restaurants. When Southern Ocean County Hospital opened it doors in 1972, the Boosters didn’t quit. Today, members of the Boosters Auxiliary remain active and constant in fund raising to help purchase healthcare equipment and new technologies so that Southern Ocean Medical Center can meet the growing needs of its community.

The Boosters Auxiliary is a social/service club holding luncheon meetings in members’ homes the third Wednesday of each month, ten months of the year.

Each Booster is encouraged to promote a personal fund raising project each year. These projects are as varied as the personalities of Booster members – from jewelry sales in the Hospital that capture employees’ attention to a “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” with hats galore to an annual Spring Fling cocktail party with hors d’ oeuvres made by Booster members.

The Birdcage Gift Shop, located just off the main lobby of Southern Ocean Medical Center, is managed and staffed by Booster members. All profits benefit the Hospital.

The Boosters care passionately about Southern Ocean Medical Center and their goal is to give back to the Hospital, which gives so much to the community.

If the Boosters had a motto, it might be “Fund raising does not have to be boring!”
