Physical Therapy for Pelvic Floor and Incontinence Conditions:

Physical therapy is an integral part of managing patients with pelvic floor problems. Treatment is provided by a licensed physical therapist who has specialized training and is certified by the American Physical Therapy Association.

A pelvic floor physical therapist has specialized training in pelvic floor evaluation and rehabilitation. This includes taking extensive continuing education courses. Our pelvic floor physical therapists can effectively help women who suffer from urinary and bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction including pain with intercourse/dyspareunia, and can also help women with issues that may occur during after pregnancy.

We dedicate a full hour at each appointment, and you will always be 1 on 1 with your physical therapist.

Treatments are based on the most recent research and evidence. The plan of care is developed in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and may include:

  • Biofeedback to assess the strength of the pelvic floor muscles and train them
  • Electrical stimulation to strengthen very weak muscles
  • Bladder schedule and retraining
  • Lifestyle modifications
  • Manual therapy
  • Therapeutic exercise, including vaginal weights
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Kegel exercises
