Geisinger Health Plan and Hackensack Meridian Health End Collaboration

Neptune, NJ - Geisinger Health Plan and Hackensack Meridian Health have ended their four-year collaboration and will not be offering Geisinger Gold in New Jersey for 2017. Despite the dissolution of their joint partnership, Hackensack Meridian Health will remain in Geisinger Health Plan’s network of participating hospitals and providers in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

“It has been a privilege to serve our Geisinger Gold patients,” said Patrick Young, president of Population Health for Hackensack Meridian Health. “Hackensack Meridian Health is working with Geisinger Health Plan to ensure our patients are able to find new health plans that address their needs. While this relationship has ended, Hackensack Meridian Health is always searching for new ways to improve patient care.”

Individuals with Geisinger Gold in Monmouth and Ocean counties can use their plan through 2016. Members will receive a letter with information to help them find coverage for 2017. To further help with the transition, affected members have a Special Enrollment Period available to them that lasts until February 28, 2017 and guaranteed access to another Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement plan. Medicare’s Annual Election Period begins October 15, 2016.

“This was a difficult decision and was not made lightly,” said Steven Youso, president and CEO of Geisinger Health Plan. “We were able to make a healthy difference in our members’ lives and are thankful we had the opportunity to work collaboratively with Hackensack Meridian Health on providing quality health care.”

Geisinger Gold, a Medicare Advantage product, was made available to seniors in Ocean and Monmouth counties in January 2013. Over the past few years, the plan succeeded in several areas including reducing the use of high risk medications among the elderly and increasing medication adherence across several chronic diseases.

Affected Geisinger Gold members seeking additional information or assistance can contact Geisinger Health Plan at 1-800-498-9731.
