Meridian Health Hospitals Earn American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) Accreditations

Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, Southern Ocean Medical Center and Bayshore Community Hospital are recognized for their strict standards of practice in providing the best cardiac rehabilitation care

Neptune, NJ - Recently, Meridian Health’s hospitals received American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) accreditation. This is the first time Bayshore Community Hospital received this accreditation, and it is a three-year re-accreditation for Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, and Southern Ocean Medical Center. The AACVPR Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Certification process is the only peer-review accreditation process and is designed to review individual facilities for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR.

Each hospital participated in a one-month application process, which required extensive documentation of the program’s practices. Each program is reviewed by the AACVPR National Certification Committee and certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.

Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program that includes exercise training, education on heart healthy living, and counseling for people with heart problems. The AACVPR certification is valid for three years, at which point the hospital must reapply and continue to maintain its strict practices in the field.

“Meridian’s cardiac rehabilitation program helps individuals who have heart disease such as angina, have had a heart attack, angioplasty, stent or open heart surgery, and combines education and exercise that helps patients improve their quality of living,” says Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center and executive sponsor, Meridian CardioVascular Network. “This accreditation is a testament to how Meridian’s cardiac rehabilitation services help patients with heart disease recover faster and return to full and productive lives after a cardiac event.”

Meridian CardioVascular Network is anchored by physicians at the region's leading academic medical center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and leading community hospitals for heart and vascular care, including Bayshore Community Hospital, Riverview Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, and Southern Ocean Medical Center. Meridian CardioVascular Network provides everything to diagnose, treat, and mend virtually all heart and vascular conditions. And, the network's specialists are continuously among the first to provide remarkable treatment and surgical options.
