23 Towns + 1 Mission = A Million Thanks from Meridian Health!

Neptune, NJ - This May, more than 23 towns in Monmouth and Ocean counties joined Meridian Health with the seventh annual Paint the Town Pink, to raise awareness of the importance of annual mammography.

What has traditionally been a week-long event lasted an entire month this year, beginning with the lighting of our Meridian Hospitals in Pink on May 1, followed by this year’s signature event, Little Things: An Evening with Giuliana and Bill Rancic, in which the celebrity couple returned to the Jersey Shore to show their support of Paint the Town Pink and talk about how a mammogram changed their lives.

During the month there were more than 30 other community events between the two counties, including everything from fundraisers to awareness fairs, concluding with Meridian Mammography Day on June 1, in which women in our community were encouraged to schedule their annual mammogram at any one of our Women’s Centers for a day of pampering while they waited.

New for this year Paint the Town Pink took the mission on the road with Pink Your Ride, powered by Toms Ford, in which more than 700 residents “Pinked” up their cars, trucks and SUVs. Even New Jersey Transit showed their support with the “Pinking” of one of their local buses.

A number of residents submitted photos of their rides for a chance to win the grand prize, a full auto detail from The Detail Doctor in Shrewsbury, which was awarded to Margaria Pacetti from Howell.

Businesses once again showed their support of Paint the Town Pink.  Nearly doubling last year’s participation, more than 600 businesses became Pink Partners, “pinking” their window fronts, offering “pink specials,” and participating in the annual Pink Window Contest (winners are listed below).  Four businesses went above and beyond to become town sponsors, including Toms Ford, town sponsor for Pink Bank (Red Bank), Pinktown (Middletown), and Pinkdel (Holmdel); MDE Home Loans, town sponsor for Little Pink (Little Silver), The Grove, town sponsor for Pinkbury (Shrewsbury), and Brook 35 & West, town sponsor for Pinksquan (Manasquan).

Behind the events and pink landscapes was a pinktastic team of volunteers, town councils, schools, civic and religious groups, and fuschia sponsors, whom without their tireless support Paint the Town Pink would not be possible.  A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone in all of our Pink towns who helped Paint the Town Pink reach more women and raise more funds to support early detection than ever before.

With the expansion of Paint the Town Pink, we expect things to get even pinker in 2014, as what began as an idea seven years ago has transformed into a grassroots initiative that is impacting a growing number of women and families in our community.
