Meridian Neuroscience Invites Stroke Survivors to “Celebrate Life”

Neptune, NJ - Meridian Neuroscience invites stroke survivors and their families to “Celebrate Life” May 18, 2013 from 10 a.m. to noon at Jumping Brook Country Club in Neptune. The event will be an opportunity to meet other survivors and share your stories, challenges, and inspirations, as well as to hear from Meridian Health experts on how to maximize the quality of life after having a stroke.

An important resource for the stroke survivor and their caregiver, “Celebrate Life” will begin with an exhibit and networking session featuring services from Meridian At Home, Shore Rehabilitation Institute, Behavioral Health, Support Groups, and additional Community and Caregiver Resources.

Attendees will then listen to two discussions including “Taking Care of Social and Emotional Needs” presented by Ramon Solhkhah, M.D.,  medical director, Meridian Behavioral Health Services, and “Taking Care of Fitness and Wellness Needs” presented by Jorge Corzo, M.D., medical director Rehabilitation Services at Riverview Medical Center and Bayshore Community Hospital.  The discussion will be followed by Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Testimonials and closing remarks by Stephen Martino, M.D., medical director of Meridian Stroke Program.

“Depression is common after a stroke as survivors are trying to navigate through their new normal.  Participating in support groups and event like “Celebrate Life” as essential to the stroke survivors overall well-being. It is our goal to arm these survivors and their caregivers with the tools they need to make daily living post-stroke as successful as it can be,” said Dr. Stephen Martino.
