Meridian Health Ranked 39th on FORTUNE’S “100 Best Companies to Work For”

Health System ranked for fourth consecutive year

Neptune, NJ -  FORTUNE announced today that Meridian Health, comprised of Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, Southern Ocean Medical Center, Bayshore Community Hospital, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital and Meridian Partner Companies, has been named to FORTUNE Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” for the fourth consecutive year and has moved up to number 39 on the list.

Sharing this honor alongside some of the nation’s most successful and leading-edge organizations, Meridian shines as the second ranked health care organization and the best ranked health system in the country.

“For me, it’s less about the award and more about what the recognition represents,” said John K. Lloyd, FACHE, president of Meridian Health.   “None of our success is possible without a strong Meridian culture where all of our team members are engaged and doing what we do best every day, which is providing the best patient experience.”

To select the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of team members from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, internal communications, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.

“Whether rallying in the face of a tough economy, the challenges of health care reform, or the disruptions of a super storm, members of the Meridian Health family continue to exemplify the values and dedication that are ingrained in our unique and special culture,” added Lloyd.

In addition to being named among FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For,” NJBIZ has named Meridian Health as one of the “Best Places to Work in New Jersey” for eight consecutive years.  The full list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” can be viewed at and will appear in the February issue of FORTUNE.
