Southern Ocean Medical Center Honors Volunteers and Auxilians.

Manahawkin, NJ - Southern Ocean Medical Center recently hosted their annual Volunteer and Auxiliary Appreciation Awards luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Manahawkin. Over 500 volunteers and auxilians contributed an incredible 109,139 hours to the patient experience at Southern Ocean in 2011. Additionally, through the hard work of Southern Ocean auxilians the thrift shops earned an impressive $500,000 in revenue for the Medical Center.
On hand to present service awards to the many volunteers were Southern Ocean president Joe Coyle and supervisor of volunteer services Janet Bennett. “This luncheon is a wonderful time of celebration and inspiration,” said Coyle addressing the group. “Your hard work, service and dedication are vital to the continued success of our hospital.”

Each year Southern Ocean departments create theme baskets filled with lovely gifts to add to the luncheon festivities and express the team member’s appreciation to the volunteers. These baskets are then presented to the lucky volunteers as prizes. “This is a perfect tradition for the Southern Ocean team to thank our volunteers and auxilians,” says Bennett. “Volunteers can be found spreading joy to our patients and team members in almost every department of the hospital, from the first face you see in the main lobby to behind the scenes in the Medical Records department.”

Three volunteers we recognized for 25 years of service: Amelia Lawton, Eleanor Lawton and Nelson Lawton and three were recognized for 20 years of service: Betty Kolarik, Joseph Kresky and Catherine Manturi.
